Basingstoke Symphony Orchestra - Romantic Music for Autumn
Our November concert showcases three great romantic orchestral works. Originally written as incidental music to Lermontov’s drama of the same name, Khachaturian’s Masquerade Suite is simply full of Russian romanticism. Shostakovich’s Second Piano Concerto was written for his nineteen year old son Maxim. With its delightful slow movement and fiery finale, it has become a firm favourite with concertgoers. The programme ends with Tchaikovsky’s epic and emotionally supercharged ‘Pathetique’ Symphony – his last and many would argue, his greatest completed symphony.
