Celebrity Cello Concert by Hugh Mackay with Scholarship Cellists
With appearances at Wigmore Hall, the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie and the Palace of Versailles to his name, the young Scottish cellist Hugh Mackay makes his St Andrews debut in a solo recital marking the 50th anniversary of Benjamin Britten’s passing. Britten’s first suite for solo cello is juxtaposed with Zoltán Kodály herculean, and rarely heard, Sonata for solo cello op. 8, before Mackay is joined by a coterie of the Music Centre’s most talented student cellists in music by Arvo Pärt and Popper’s Polonaise de Concert for Eight Cellos.
