Beethoven's dramatic Coriolan Overture opens the programme, followed by the youthful elegance of Mozart's Symphony No. 5. A highlight is Haydn's Trumpet Concerto, performed by internationally acclaimed trumpeter David Blackadder on a period instrument – a rare chance to hear the work as Haydn may have imagined it. The concert concludes with Schubert's magnificent Symphony No. 9, the "Great" C major, whose expansive vision helped shape the future of orchestral music.
