Private Peaceful
Based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo, author of War Horse, Private Peaceful has become one of the most widely staged adaptations of his work. The story centres on Tommo Peaceful, a young soldier awaiting dawn and facing the consequences of war. Through memory, he revisits his childhood in rural England, his close relationship with his brother Charlie, and the moments that shaped his life before the battlefield changed everything. Since its first performances, Private Peaceful has earned praise from audiences around the world for its sensitive and humane portrayal of war and memory. Produced by Joshua Beaumont and Matthew Emeny for The Production Garden in association with Exeter Northcott Theatre, it remains a poignant and enduring work that reflects on sacrifice, love and the fragile cost of conflict.
