Museum Talk | The Bayeux Tapestry with Monika Lind
We all know that it depicts the Norman conquest of England in 1066 and the times leading up to it. The tapestry depicts 626 men and only 3 women; who are they? Theories of its creation have been debated through centuries. We will have a look at those theories and at the story being told through secret messages and symbols, with particular focus on the depictions in the margins. Finally, we will look at the censorship undertaken by Victorian embroiderers in the late 19 th century.
