Remarkable Women in the History of Art: Rosa Bonheur

At Worthing Theatres and Museum, Worthing · 1 performance from Thu 19 Nov to Thu 19 Nov.

Rosa Bonheur was one of the most successful painters in France during the second half of the nineteenth century although it was relatively rare for women to become professional artists at the time. She was best known for her images of rural French life, particularly animals. She was the first woman to be awarded France’s prestigious Légion d’honneur, a success that gave her financial security. Her precocious talent, unconventional lifestyle and love of animals, makes her one of the most radical and interesting artists of the 19th century.
