Sashiko with Jayne Eagle
Workshop aim - to learn how to create sashiko style stitching - a Japanese form of hand sewing. Also an introduction to the cultural history of Boro and Sashiko looking at how it evolved from repair to embellishment is discussed throughout the workshop. Sashiko uses small running stitches to mend and strengthen woven fabric, this session provides a wonderful introduction to this type of textile technique. During this workshop learners will work Sashiko stitch designs whilst learning how to draw and create traditional patterns onto fabric swatches without the need of templates, equipping you with the skills to continue sewing at home. Different types of fabric will be used including a quilted piece. Who is this suitable for? - Beginner friendly, no experience needed. This is an Introductory workshop to Sashiko. Workshop outcomes - Learners would be able to work the Sashiko running stitch
